Chesterfield County is in the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan, the long-term blueprint that guides how and where the county grows. As currently proposed, the plan would limit future housing options across the county.

This matters because Chesterfield already lacks enough housing options that are attainable for working families. Working families are being priced out. First-time home buyers are struggling to find a starting point. Seniors have fewer options to downsize while staying close to family and community. And the teachers, nurses, firefighters, and police officers who keep Chesterfield running are increasingly unable to afford living in the community they serve.

Limiting future housing options now, at a moment when demand is already outpacing supply, would make an existing problem worse. The Board of Supervisors will decide the direction of this plan, and residents have a say before that decision is final.
